Hello
my name is Ashlie

My Story :
With the ability to draw from an early age and a lot of freedom to explore outdoors, I never had to look far to find my passions. Flowers, backyard exploration, and drawing were a second home and comfort to an anxious only child who didn't really love school. I learned better hands on, at my own pace, and by my own free will/intuition. The same is still true today, and that's why I took the path of the self taught artist. A journey I am proud to have ventured upon, it allowed my work to grow organically.
I've worked with many forms of artistic media: pen and ink, pencil, mixed media, oils, and acrylics. But it wasn't until I discovered watercolor that I knew I had found my nitch. Watercolor adds a vibrancy, depth, and softness to my work that I feel allows me to express myself and the beauty of the natural world.
My work has been published in publications such as In Her Garden Volume 1, In Her Studio Volume 5 Issue 3, and Where Women Create Issue 22, as well as Uppercase Magazine issues 52 & 53. I have also had the honor of creating work for the book Plant Grow Harvest Repeat by author and Gardener, Meg McAndrews Cowden. In addition to these accomplishments, I've had the privilege to show my work locally. Places such as The Newburgh Brewing Company and The Grange at Warwick have welcomed my work upon their walls.
Most mornings and late afternoons you can find me in my studio, a sun-filled room that over looks my gardens. It is there that I create paintings directly inspired by my own backyard, local hikes, a friends farm, and more. You could say that flowers, birds, and wildlife light my creative fire. I am also deeply inspired by florals found in old botanical books, artwork, and fabric designs of the past.
Aside from my life as an artist I enjoy hiking, gardening, driving my Volkswagen Beetle, thrifting, and antiquing. I love new experiences and being on the go, however as much as I love the thrill of being active... I do require a down time. I find periods of rest through reading, doing yoga, acupuncture, and meditating.
